Christian Blaha (*1972) studied composition with Alexandre Hrisanide (a pupil of Nadia Boulanger), choral conducting with Louis Buskens and piano with Joop Albracht and Paul Komen at the “Brabants Conservatorium” in Tilburg and orchestral conducting with Ed Spanjaard in Amsterdam. For choral conducting and composition (cum laude), he received a Master of Arts. Furthermore, he participated master classes with Alfred Reed, Menachim Breuer and Romain Bischoff whom he assisted at the Dutch Vocal Laboratorium.
Blaha received commissions i.a. from the "Nederlands Promenade Orkest" , the "Limburgs Symfonieorkest”, Pianoduo Post-Mulder, "Nieuw Amsterdams Peil”, and "Belcanto Strings” (Daniel Raiskin). He composed over 70 works (including 3 symphonys, musictheaters, chambermusic and choralworks) and is an all round arranger.
Christian Blaha is co-founder and conductor of the professional chamber orchestra "Zeeuws Kamerorkest TY “and together with Tassilo Erhardt founder and conductor of the chamber choir "Melopoëia".
He is pianist of Koor Lichte Muziek A58. Together with conductor Rob van der Meule; they won two times in a row the Dutch Choir Championships (NKF 2008 and 2010).
Blaha is regularly asked to give courses in conducting, composition and music theory. Recently he taught at Kunstfactor (former SNK/Unisono) and the Roosevelt Academy (University of Utrecht).
